On Saturday May 7, Skin Care Cymru hosted a private swim event for people with skin conditions and their families at the Wales National Pool in Swansea. \u00a0The event which was widely publicised and was open to all, is part of a wider campaign to support people with skin conditions to feel comfortable in their own skin. \u00a0Attendees travelled from as far west as Cardigan and from as far east as Cardiff to support the event and feedback was positive with one participant commenting: \u201cWe all had a great time swimming as a family. A very rare event.\u201d\u00a0 Another swimmer, who has psoriasis, said that the event \u201cwas probably the best perk she\u2019s ever had of having psoriasis!\u201d.<\/p>\n

Julie Peconi of Skin Care Cymru said: \u201cThere are many thousands of people in Wales who have to manage their lives with dermatology issues ranging from acne and eczema to skin cancer, plastic surgery and vitiligo. \u00a0Many of us take our skin for granted but for those who have to manage skin conditions it can be difficult and distressing for them and their families. Events like the swimming session at Wales National Pool Swansea support people to feel comfortable in their own skin \u2013 whatever their condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeremy Cole, General Manager at Wales National Pool Swansea, said the pool was proud to be hosting the Comfortable in My Skin event.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWales National Pool Swansea is a flagship swimming venue for Swansea and for Wales. We might be best known for being home to elite athletes but we\u2019re extremely proud of our track record in supporting organisations like Skin Care Cymru to encourage people who might not otherwise feel swimming is for them to take the plunge and join in.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with skin conditions can sometimes feel excluded from regular activities such as swimming. Partnering-up with Skin Care Cymru for Comfortable in My Skin will hopefully make a real difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
