Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a skin condition characterised by painful boils, abscesses, and scarring on the skin. The lesions commonly appear around the hair follicles and sweat glands, and mainly affects areas of the body where there are folds of skin, such as the groin region and armpits.

The exact causes of HS are fully understood, and treatments for the condition usually involve antibiotics for associated infections in the skin, the prescription of retinoid drugs, use of steroids, or surgery to reduce pain by removing scars and lumps on the skin.
